ON THE BLOG
When Hunter and I go out to unwind we usually like to stay pretty low key. Lucky for us Nashville has an amazing rooftop bar scene. Over the past few years this city has grown like crazy and we have tried our hardest to keep up with all of the new restaurants and bars that seemingly pop up out of no where. This week we decided that we would go check out the newly renovated L27 Rooftop Bar at the top of the Westin Hotel before Hunter left for Memphis Fashion Week. Below are my two cents as well as a few of my other favorite Nashville rooftop bars.
When I was trying to decide what gifts to get my groomsmen when I asked them to be a part of our wedding, I struggled big time! Guys are pretty easy to shop for but when it comes down to something this special, nothing seems quite good enough. I searched Pinterest for a long time but everything felt either too cheap, cheesy or expensive. I wanted to get a gift for them that was unique and functional. I found a few things that I loved that I'll list below but I ultimately decided to custom make my own gifts.
I had the opportunity to go out to Promise City, Iowa and go on a 2 day pheasant hunt with my father-in-law Don and our friend Bucky. I had never been on a pheasant hunt before so I was really excited for this trip. We made it to the lodge on Friday and got settled in with our Guide Travis and his chef, Tim (yea this isn't your average hunt camp). We were treated like royalty from the moment we walked in until the morning we left.
Alright, a topic that I know a little bit of information about. Hunter and I both get questions about what equipment we use to shoot with so I have decided to give y'all some details on my gear as well as some tips and tricks. I'm always learning more about photography and trying to improve my skills so here are my two cents on the topic. At the end of the day composition and lighting are truly the most important elements of photography. Having expensive gear doesn't automatically equal "good" photographs but there are a few staple pieces of equipment that I think will improve the quality of your work.
A few months ago Hunter and I had the opportunity to visit the great state of Wyoming. We have both been to Colorado countless times but we only ever went on ski trips and never got to experience what the western states had to offer outside of the mountain life. We teamed up with the Wyoming Board of Tourism, who planned a 4 day adventure packed trip that would lead us all around the North East corner of the state.
I feel like there is this misconception about bloggers and how all they do is look pretty and run around taking photos all the time. This is the complete opposite for me and Hunter. I have been taking her photographs since day one and we have made this feel less like a job and more like an adventure that both of us get to share together.
Ever since I can remember I have carried a pocket knife. Call me old school but when I was around 7 years old I received my first pocket knife as a gift from my dad and there haven't been many days since then that I didn't have a knife with me. There are many reasons as to why I believe carrying a knife is beneficial so let's explore them.
Having a good haircut can do wonders for a guy. Whether it’s a tight fade, cleaned up flow or a single guard all over, maintaining a nice haircut goes a long way. As a kid my mom took me to a salon every other month for a haircut but I never realized how important a professional haircut was.
Hunter and I love to get a little dressed up (or dressed down) and go out for date nights. Whether we are eating a fancy steak dinner at Kayne Prime, fresh seafood at Fin & Pearl or chowing down on pizza and beer and Bella Napoli we make sure we do this a few times a month. It's good for the soul to go out with your person and spend some quality time talking over a good meal.
Wedding planning is one of those things that you kind of just have to jump right into with no direction. Growing up, every girl has this vision of her dream wedding day. Guys on the other hand just think about who will be there, seeing their soon to be wife for the first time in that white dress and the party that comes after saying “I do.” Here is my best planning advice for all you guys that are planning a wedding or thinking about getting married in the future.
